The holidays are coming. Time to relax, celebrate, and to spend time with family and friends. Time to eat, exchange gifts, and eat some more. This is great for you and your crew, but what about your four-legged kids?

The other day I had some friends tell me they were afraid they would have to get rid of their dog because he was digging under their fence and constantly escaping. Fortunately, he didn’t go far and usually just ended up in their neighbor’s yard, but my friends were concerned that one day he would wander and get lost, or worse, get hit by a car.

There are a lot of poisonous plants out there, but few cause fatalities in dogs. Today, I wanted to write about the dangers of the sago palm, because people are often unaware of this potentially deadly plant.

A survey conducted in 1996 using samples collected from across the United States found that more than 30% of dogs younger than 6 months of age were shedding roundworm eggs and other studies have shown that virtually all pups are born infected.

Background
The Bearded Collie is one of Britain’s oldest breeds and originates in Central Europe with ties to the Komondor. Before being called Bearded Collie the breed was called Highland Collie because of all the time spent in Scotland as herding dogs. The name evolved to Bearded Collie because unlike other collie breeds, they have long facial hair that resembles a beard.

The Bearded Collie was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1976.

Common complaints of shivering/shaking, and weakness/lethargy.

Background
Developed in Moscow, the Black Russian Terrier made his debut after World War II. Bred by crossing a Giant Schnauzer with breeds such as the Airedale, the Rottweiler, and the Moscow Retriever -- he was primarily used for military and police work.

The Black Russian Terrier was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 2004.
