K. Wade Burton, DVM is a Medical Affairs Specialist for IDEXX Laboratories. He joined IDEXX in 2015 as a Professional Service Veterinarian and moved into Medical Affairs in the fall of 2018. He is 1994 graduate of Texas A&M. Dr. Burton began his veterinary career in a mixed animal practice in EI Campo, TX. Then, with his classmate and wife Dr. Susan Hopper, they purchased a clinic in Georgetown, TX and practiced there for 10 years. Dr. Burton joined Merial as a Technical Service Veterinarian in 2005 and worked in Kansas City/fly over country for 2 years before returning home to Texas for the next 8 years to provide educational and technical support to veterinary community including the faculty, students and staff at Texas A&M and LSU. His professional interests include heartworm disease, parasitology, infectious diseases and preventive medicine. He has delivered over 900 educational presentations at veterinary schools, conferences, veterinary medical association meetings and staff meetings.
Additionally, he serves on the Board of Directors of the Texas Veterinary Medicine Association, the Leadership Development Committee and as the facilitator and leader of the TVMA Power of Ten Leadership development program. Additionally, he is a facilitator for the Veterinary Leadership Experience, a leadership, communications and team building conference for veterinary students, faculty and practitioners. He is a member of the Texas A&M VET, an emergency and disaster response team for veterinary disaster response. He has previously served on the Board of Managers for Southwest Veterinary Symposium and Board of Trustees for the Texas Veterinary Medical Foundation.
Dr. Burton and his wife live in Liberty Hill, TX with their 3 dogs, 2 cats and 2 horses. They enjoy travel and he is an avid sportsman and Aggie sports fan. He is also amember of Lions Clubs International since 1995 serving his local community.
