A Little Girl's Legacy of Love

There was a little girl named Catherine Violet Hubbard, who was, by all accounts, very special. She was a friend to every animal, no matter how big or small. Worms, bugs, and birds were almost as special to her as was her best friend, an aging dog named Samantha. Catherine's mom and dad would hear the little girl talking to the creatures she'd meet each day, whispering to them to be sure and tell their friends that she was kind, hoping that they'd always come back and visit. We're sure that those animals did indeed come back and visit her. She was, after all, one of the best friends any animal could ever have.

Then one terrible day, all this love and compassion seemed to come to an end. An armed gunman stormed an Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, and killed 20 children and six adults. Catherine was one of the little souls who lost her life that day.

But, there was no way to snuff out all that love. Catherine's mother and father knew that Catherine's spirit and heart needed to live on and that it would be with animals. Where else would it be, after all?

So, the Hubbards partnered with The Animal Center in Newtown, to begin creating the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary, a place where all creatures, great and small, can know the touch of a kind hand and be safe from harm. A place where children and adults can come and learn, where people can see a vision for a world where animals are treated with compassion and love.
